A HUGE part of Parenting on Purpose is about training our kids with excellence. We are their coaches, their mentors, their advisers, their educators and their directors.

Training is about teaching, correcting and modeling the skills and behaviors and character traits that will prepare our kids for a successful adult life.

Character Training

“Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.” — C. S. Lewis

The foundation of all training starts with character. It doesn’t amount to a hill of beans how smart or skilled our kids are if they’re lazy or they lie or they’re selfish or arrogant or rude.

In this section, we’ve got encouragement and ideas for

  • Behavior Modification
  • Obedience
  • Excellence
  • Character Traits
  • Honor & Respect

“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.” –Mark Twain

Whether you choose to choose to partner with a public school or a private school or you choose to homeschool or unschool, you are still the Director of your child’s education.

From the time you teach your toddler that the cow says Moo to the time you teach your high schooler how to run a household, you are the overseer of the entire learning process.

There are few thing that we (Jenni & Jody) feel more strongly about than education. Throughout our blog and podcast you’ll find conversations and resources to inspire and equip you to offer your child the very best education.

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Homeschooling
  • Unschooling
  • Life Skills
  • Money Management
  • Time Management
  • Organization Skills
  • Reading
  • College Prep
  • Career Training

Social – Emotional Training

We share our space in this galaxy with other people, but that can be the hardest part of living. Part of our training our kids is helping them navigate their own emotions and then helping them understand and connect with other people.

In this corner of the POP Parenting site we’ll talk about:

  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Honor & Respect
  • Vulnerability
  • Transparency
  • Friendships
  • Siblings
  • Conflict Stewardship

  1. Jenni and Jody,
As a retired Credit Union CEO, I am thrilled to see that one of the areas you concentrate on is Money Management. I believe it is one of the hardest topics for some parents to teach their children because they struggle with it themselves. A major trend we see is that parents don’t keep track of what they are spending and pay NSF fees for really small purchases. For example, I saw an NSF fee for the purchase a pack of gum and another for a cup of coffee and this happens more frequently than you might think. We returned the fees due to the small amount, but not every FI does. Please help the parents learn so they can teach their children not to repeat the same cycle!

    • Thank you, Elaine! We believe money management is one of the most essential life skills, and we think parents should be deliberately preparing their kids for adulthood. It’s super encouraging when we know the message resonates with our readers.
